The history of African Americans in sports has been one of complete segregation up until the 1950s. Although, black athletes were recognized as some of the most talented of their time, they were often excluded from playing with whites. Many believe sports began integration in 1947 with the signing of Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. However, in 1946 the first black athletes began playing for a major football team. Integration was slow but still pure talent has triumphed. There is still work to do. Here are the stats.
